Thomias Huhn

Thomias’ Deep Hope for her students is that they will embrace the idea of growth over perfection. She hopes they are able find a love for learning and come to believe that God is a good God who wants them to try their best and remember “progress now, perfection later” (Philippians 3:12 – 16).  

Bachelor of Arts (Major in Development Studies, Minor in Indigenous Studies); Bachelor of Education (specializing in ELA): University of Calgary.

Thomias Huhn: Grade 1

Ms. Huhn joined the Westpark teaching team in 2023 after relocating to Portage la Prairie from Calgary, Alberta.  She is passionate about teaching here and loves the atmosphere the school has created in that students are more than just numbers on the enrollment list, they are family. Westpark fosters a safe, inclusive, and caring school environment where all are welcome . 

Ms. Huhn’s favorite part of teaching is seeing her students have that ‘lightbulb’ moment after they have been working hard to master a new skill, and seeing their excitement when they finally get it. Ms. Huhn strives to create a safe and enjoyable classroom where students from all walks of life feel welcome. She doesn’t expect perfection from her students, but rather she believes that mistakes are proof that they are learning and trying their best.  She wants students in her class to not only be okay with making mistakes but also to have the courage to make them!

Ms. Huhn stays busy outside of school with her young daughter who keeps her on her toes.  Thomias is thankful to have a large extended family nearby and she enjoys knitting, reading, swimming, travelling and camping when she can!
